E-Z Sewing Instructions
Cut along the outer printed edge. (We’ve already added a hem allowance.)
Along the outer edge of the top, fly end and bottom you will want to fold the fabric over 3/8″ and then an additional fold of 3/8″ to create your hem edge. Pinning your hem makes it easier to sew.
Using a zig-zag stitch or a double-needle stitch along your hem edge will hold the hem in place. It can be done with a single stitch however, issues of tension on the thread and the probability of gathering (puckering) become greater. (Tip: Sew the top and bottom first and then the fly end last.)
To create the Pole Hem you will need to fold the outer edge 3/8″ and continue to fold an additional 2″-again pin your hem prior to sewing. A double needle stitch or a zig-zag AND a single needle stitch is the preferred method for ensuring a strong Pole Hem.
Tips:
Selecting a neutral thread or using a monofilament thread will save you from changing thread colors along the way.
Poly China Silk is exceptionally lightweight and you should adjust your thread and bobbin tension accordingly. (if your fabric is gathering, reduce your tensions.)
